There has been so much publicity via social media in the past days on the proposed formation of the Football Association of Honiara (FAH) headed by Joel Konofilia. Already steps have been taken by FAH in advancing its intention to run the proposed Honiara Super League (HSL). The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) seeks to communicate its stand against FAH and HSL amid speculations that FAH has now taken away from Honiara Football Association (HFA) its sole responsibility to run and organise football leagues in Honiara and that the HSL will stand rivalry to and superior over the Telekom S’ League.
FAH and HSL are not in any way recognized as legitimate by SIFF being the only legitimate football body mandated by OFC and FIFA to administer football in Solomon Islands.
Whilst it is not the intention of SIFF to stand in the way of privately run football academies and clubs seeking to run football competitions in the country (in that they are also contributing to the country’s football development), SIFF will not and cannot allow any person or body to engage in any football related activities unregulated primarily where they are seeking to undermine the mandate accorded to SIFF. Unfortunately, FAH and HSL are classic examples.
Furthermore, SIFF condemns the ongoing rant via social media applied by one Joel Konofilia. More so, it is so unfortunate that many of SIFF’s members and affiliates have been lured to join FAH and HSL in return for hefty financial gain. Similarly, it is just unacceptable that Mr Konofilia continues to mislead the public with his continuous barrage of incorrect information and unfounded allegations against SIFF and its officials.
Given SIFF’s clear mandate, all SIFF affiliated members, officials, players, and clubs are advised not to associate themselves in any way with FAH and HSL failing which, SIFF will not hesitate to impose appropriate sanctions against the person or member concerned.
