Senior referee course underway

The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) technical department is hosting a three-day MA Senior Referee Course which starts today and concludes on Friday at the Allen Boso Complex in Honiara.

SIFF Referee Development Officer (RDO), Robert Sulimae is optimistic that the 17 participants will use the training ahead of competitions this year.

In his opening remarks during the official opening today, SIFF Technical Director, Moses Toata reminded the senior referees of the role they play in the development of football.

“During opening this morning I remind the referees about their commitment to their engagements,” he said.

“I told them when you are committed, you are restricted from some action. Last year some referees boycotted the leagues, this is no commitment.”

Toata stressed that this course is like a refresher ahead of a busy calendar year for football in the country.

“They must be prepared to participate in the upcoming SIFF competitions which will require their services,” Toata explained.

“Major events this year, the U-16 Youth Competition in April, U-14 and Senior Solomon Cup in June, the TSL U19 League for both men and women should kick start next month and HFA leagues as well. These competitions have been confirmed and we will need referees who are committed and ready to participate.”
