Senior coaches wrap up eduction centre year

Fourteen senior coaches in the country completed part one of the OFC Senior C License on Friday 27 November after a weeklong training at the SIFF Education Centre.

Most participants on this course are from Honiara and 6 came from the provinces.

OFC Instructor and SIFF Technical Director, Moses Toata said he was impressed with the coaches eargerness to learn.

“This is the OFC Senior C License similar to the youth level we’ve just completed three weeks ago and I’m happy to see our senior coaches undergo this training,” he said.

“The course cover coaches competencies in-game understanding, training and also we cover a bit on leadership and player development.

“Now we have completed practicals on the two parts of the course which is theory and practical.”

“I encourage all coaches to keep working hard to complete this important course which will increase the number of coaches who are qualified to attend the B Licence which is the next level.

“If we want to develop football in this country, we need to have more coaches who are qualified to do it”.

The coaches will be assessed before they are certified as OFC Senior C License holders.

Background information

The OFC Senior C Licence is a program designed to help coaches learn the coaching process of planning, preparing, conducting and evaluating their coaching sessions.

The content of the course is based on coaching competencies a senior coach must-have.

These are; 1. Game Understanding 2. The coaching process 3. Leadership 4. Player Development.

These are important to cornerstone for coaches in the development of their team module or football Philosophy.

The 5 days course provided an opportunity for participating coaches to interact, share and learn from each other’s experiences.

Coaches learn to also put into practice what they learn in theory and be assessed when they deliver their sessions.

According to the OFC Coaching Development convention, candidates after attending the first part of the licence course will go through a period of mentoring and post-course assessment which mean they will be assessed while working for their clubs or teams.

When they have completed all the assessment, they will receive their Coaching Licence which is recognized throughout Oceania.
