The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) is in the hunt to recruit a national team coach to replace Dutch legend Wim Rijsbergen who left the national side after the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa.
A foreign coach could be appointed but it will take time to find a suitable candidate to take the helm of the national team.
The appointment of a new coach is urgent as 2020 is shaping up to be a busy year for the national team.
SIFF Technical Director, Moses Toata knows what it’s like to be in the driving seat as the national team coach.
Toata revealed that the Technical Committee will decide on the appointment of the coach once all relevant information is in hand.
The former Solomon Islands international said it’s still possible to appoint a local coach as a caretaker while the hunt is on for a foreigner.
The new coach will lead the national side into the proposed Tri-Nation series between Fiji, Tahiti and the Solomon Islands in March in Suva.
Solomon Islands reached the final of the last World Cup qualifiers and the Oceania second-best ranked will be keen to repeat the feat in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifying rounds in the region.
Thus, the appointment of the new coach is vital towards the first stage of the World Cup qualifiers at the OFC Nations Cup which will be kick-off in June.
