NATIONAL TEAMS POSITIONS – HEAD COACH

The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified/experienced individuals for the management of the Solomon Islands international football teams for the 2025 football season. Interested persons are invited to submit their applications for the following teams:

Position Overview:

The Head Coach is responsible for leading the soccer team, developing player skills, and creating a competitive and positive environment that promotes both individual and team growth. The Head Coach will design and implement training sessions, develop match strategies, manage team performance, and work closely with staff, players, and management to ensure success both on and off the field. The ideal candidate will have a strong tactical understanding of the game, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for developing players to their fullest potential.

Team Leadership and Coaching:

  • Lead all aspects of team performance, including training sessions, tactical planning, and matchday strategies.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive training programs to improve individual skills, team dynamics, and fitness.
  • Assess players’ abilities and performance, providing feedback and guidance for their development.
  • Foster a positive, motivated, and disciplined team culture based on respect, teamwork, and high standards of performance.

Matchday Preparation and Management:

  • Prepare the team for competitive matches by creating tactical plans, reviewing opposition teams, and ensuring all players understand their roles.
  • Select matchday line-ups, manage substitutions, and provide in-game guidance during matches.
  • Analyze team and individual performance post-match, identifying areas for improvement and adjusting future strategies.

Player Development:

  • Identify and nurture talent within the team, providing both short-term and long-term development pathways for players.
  • Support players in achieving their personal and athletic goals, fostering both technical and mental growth.
  • Coordinate with assistant coaches, fitness staff, and medical personnel to ensure players are receiving optimal physical and mental support.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with assistant coaches, team managers, and other staff to ensure smooth operations of training sessions, matches, and team events.
  • Communicate effectively with players and staff, maintaining an open and supportive environment for feedback and suggestions.
  • Regularly meet with management to review team progress, discuss goals, and provide insights on team performance and potential improvements.

Scouting and Recruitment:

  • Participate in the identification, scouting, and recruitment of new players to strengthen the team.
  • Provide recommendations for player acquisitions based on team needs, future goals, and playing style.

Team Culture and Morale:

  • Establish and maintain a team culture that prioritizes sportsmanship, work ethic, respect, and mutual support.
  • Promote a healthy balance between competition and camaraderie within the squad.

Administrative and Reporting:

  • Assist in managing team-related administrative tasks such as player evaluations, performance reviews, and progress reports.
  • Ensure compliance with league rules and regulations, including any disciplinary issues or code of conduct violations.

Health, Safety, and Welfare:

  • Ensure the physical well-being of players, working with fitness and medical staff to manage injuries and recovery.
  • Encourage a holistic approach to player health, including mental wellness, nutrition, and off-field behavior.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a soccer coach, preferably with experience at the professional, collegiate, or competitive youth levels.
  • Deep knowledge of soccer techniques, tactics, and strategies, with the ability to communicate complex concepts effectively to players.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience in managing teams and motivating players to achieve their full potential.
  • Ability to analyze performance data and use video analysis to refine training and tactical approaches.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work well with players, staff, and management.
  • A strong commitment to player development, both on and off the field.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive relationships with players, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the team in various situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coaching certifications (OFC certification or above).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with sports science or performance analysis tools.

The selected candidate will be required to complete the FIFA Safe Guarding Certificate training module to confirm their engagement.
