The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified/experienced individuals for the management of the Solomon Islands international football teams for the 2025 football season. Interested persons are invited to submit their applications for the following teams:

Position Overview

The Physiotherapist is responsible for the prevention, assessment, and treatment of injuries for the soccer team’s players. The role includes providing rehabilitation, injury prevention strategies, and ensuring the overall physical well-being of players, both during and outside of the competitive season. The Physiotherapist will work closely with the coaching staff, medical team, and players to ensure that players are fit, healthy, and performing at their best.

Key Responsibilities

  • Injury Prevention and Assessment:
    • Conduct regular physical assessments of players to identify potential injury risks and areas for improvement.
    • Develop and implement injury prevention programs, focusing on strengthening, flexibility, and conditioning.
    • Perform injury assessments, diagnosing strains, sprains, and other soft tissue injuries, and determining the appropriate course of treatment.
  • Rehabilitation and Treatment:
    • Provide treatment for acute and chronic injuries, including manual therapy, rehabilitation exercises, and other physiotherapy techniques.
    • Design and implement individualized rehabilitation programs for injured players, ensuring they return to play safely and efficiently.
    • Monitor players’ progress throughout their rehabilitation and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
    • Administer pre- and post-training/match treatment to reduce the risk of injuries and support recovery.
  • Matchday and Training Support:
    • Be present at training sessions and matchdays to provide immediate treatment for injuries or medical emergencies.
    • Assess players’ fitness levels and readiness for competition before and after matches, advising on any restrictions or precautions.
    • Offer on-the-spot treatment for injuries sustained during matches and help coordinate any necessary follow-up care.
  • Collaboration with Medical and Coaching Staff:
    • Work closely with the Head Coach, medical staff, and fitness trainers to develop and implement comprehensive fitness and injury management plans.
    • Communicate regularly with coaching and management staff regarding player injury statuses, rehabilitation progress, and fitness levels.
    • Provide input on player availability for matches based on medical and rehabilitation progress.
  • Player Education and Support:
    • Educate players on injury prevention techniques, proper nutrition, and the importance of recovery to maintain peak physical condition.
    • Advise players on the use of appropriate gear, such as footwear, to minimize injury risks.
    • Offer emotional and psychological support to injured players, guiding them through their rehabilitation process to ensure a positive recovery mindset.
  • Record Keeping and Reporting:
    • Maintain detailed and confidential medical records for all players, tracking injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress.
    • Provide injury reports to the coaching staff and management, ensuring that all relevant parties are informed.
    • Keep accurate records of treatment protocols, medical interventions, and player progress.

  • Health and Safety:
    • Ensure that all physiotherapy practices follow medical and health guidelines, including sanitation, safety protocols, and the safe use of equipment.
    • Stay current on advancements in sports medicine, physiotherapy techniques, and injury management.
    • Maintain necessary certifications (e.g., First Aid, CPR) and ensure readiness to manage medical emergencies.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Physiotherapy or related field.
  • Licensed or registered physiotherapist with professional certification (e.g., state or national registration).
  • Previous experience working with athletes, preferably in a team environment, sports medicine, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of musculoskeletal injuries, sports rehabilitation, and physiotherapy techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with players, coaching staff, and other medical professionals.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, especially during matchdays and travel.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in managing player records and treatment plans.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting and handle high-pressure situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with professional soccer players or in a high-performance sports setting.
  • Specialization or additional certifications in sports physiotherapy, manual therapy, or injury prevention.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
  • Familiarity with rehabilitation equipment (e.g., ultrasound, electrical stimulation devices, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in sports environment.
  • Knowledge of kit suppliers and apparel brands used in soccer and applicable regulations on team kits.

The selected candidate will be required to complete the FIFA Safe Guarding Certificate training module to confirm their engagement.
