NATIONAL TEAM POSITIONS – ASSISTANT COACH

The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified/experienced individuals for the management of the Solomon Islands international football teams for the 2025 football season. Position Overview

The Assistant Coach plays a crucial role in supporting the Head Coach in managing and developing the soccer team. The Assistant Coach will assist with the planning and implementation of training sessions, provide tactical insights during matches, and contribute to the development of individual players. This role requires strong soccer knowledge, the ability to work as part of a coaching team, and the passion to help players reach their full potential both on and off the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Training and Coaching:
    • Assist the Head Coach in the development and delivery of daily training sessions, focusing on player technique, tactics, and fitness.
    • Lead specific drills, exercises, or tactical sessions as assigned by the Head Coach.
    • Provide individual coaching and feedback to players to help them improve their technical and tactical skills.
    • Help assess player performance during training and matches, providing constructive feedback to encourage improvement.
  • Matchday Support:
    • Help with pre-match preparations, including setting up equipment and reviewing match strategies with the players.
    • Assist the Head Coach with tactical instructions and substitutions during matches, contributing insights based on game situations.
    • Actively observe the game, provide in-game coaching to players, and communicate with the Head Coach regarding adjustments.
    • Contribute to post-match analysis, reviewing team performance and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Player Development:
    • Work closely with individual players to assess their development needs and provide tailored coaching to help them improve.
    • Support the Head Coach in creating a positive learning environment, fostering the development of both technical and mental aspects of the game.
    • Help monitor players’ progress, track their performance, and ensure each player is receiving the right level of support and challenge.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Maintain close communication with the Head Coach and other coaching staff to ensure alignment in training, tactical approach, and team goals.
    • Assist with team-building activities and help maintain a positive and supportive atmosphere within the squad.
    • Collaborate with other support staff (e.g., fitness trainers, medical personnel) to ensure players are physically and mentally prepared.
  • Scouting and Recruitment:
    • Help scout potential new players, assess their skill levels, and provide input on recruitment decisions.
    • Assist in the evaluation of players during trials or team selection processes.
  • Administrative Support:
    • Assist with the preparation of team schedules, training plans, and match reports as needed.
    • Support the Head Coach with the preparation of tactical analysis, video reviews, and other coaching resources.
    • Help manage and maintain team records, including performance data, injury reports, and player evaluations.
  • Health, Safety, and Welfare:
    • Ensure players are following safe practices during training and matches, including injury prevention and recovery.
    • Work with the team’s medical and fitness staff to monitor player health and readiness.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Previous experience in coaching soccer, ideally at a competitive level (youth, collegiate, or professional).
  • Strong understanding of soccer tactics, techniques, and strategies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with players, coaching staff, and management.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire players.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a coaching team.
  • Ability to adapt and respond to dynamic match situations and player needs.
  • Basic knowledge of video analysis or performance data tools is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coaching certifications (OFC certification or above)
  • First Aid and CPR certification (preferred)
  • Minimum tertiary education

The selected candidate will be required to complete the FIFA Safe Guarding Certificate training module to confirm their engagement.
