Mataks FC today are crowned Champions of the SIFF Super Futsal League (SSFL) 2023 season for a second consecutive year.
The Matariu-based futsal club made an illustrious run this year, lifting the President’s Cup back in March and proving consistency in the country’s top-flight league.
Signing off the season, Mataks FC played their final league match against The Saints where they were held to a 1 all draw – a hard-earned point for the Champions who were forced to come from behind and salvage a point to enjoy the party.
On the standings, Mataks FC are six points clear from second-place Futsal GC.
Triumphant head coach Francis Lafai expressed satisfaction while congratulating his players for the hard work shown.
“This season is very tough, it is not easy for us to come out again as champions but all credit to the players who have worked really hard to come out victorious again,” Lafai expresses.
The former Kurukuru player also made admiration to the level of challenge throughout the season.
“Teams this season have improved a lot and are competitive. The challenge is not easy to become champions and I also want to thank all the participating clubs for the effort they have put up this season.
Mataks FC walked away $50,000 richer and to add icing on the cake all three of their players and the coach were singled out in the individual awards category.
SIFF Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Leonard Paia congratulated the participating futsal clubs while also assuring an increase in the annual futsal competition prices next year.
The CEO also thanked the Government through its Sol2023 National Hosting Authority (NHA) and the National Sports Council (NSC) for the season’s venue – the new Friendship Hall which was dedicated to the code of futsal and has complimented the performance throughout the league.
