The Lauru Football Association (LFA) has received a significant financial boost, with SBD$110,000 earmarked to support its key provincial competitions this year under a new executive mandate.

LFA’s new Executive was elected during an elective congress held last month, a key moment for the association. Jeffrey Sipele emerged as the new LFA President, leading a revitalized team committed to advancing football in Choiseul province.

On Friday, President Sipele accepted three funding cheques to support its 2024 Capital League, the LFA Grassroots U14 Championship, and the LFA Women’s League.

Upon receiving the grants, Sipele was grateful to the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF).

“LFA was without a President for too long. We managed to host a congress with SIFF’s support and it was successful. It’s a significant achievement for us to restart our activities and the support from SIFF is timely and will help us roll out our plans for this year.”

Detailing the plans, Sipele explained, “We already have plans in place for these competitions. With the funding, we will kick off the Capital League with the constituency wards. There are three constituencies, but we divided the North/West Constituency into two. There will be four match venues where selections will be conducted to form a provincial team for the upcoming Solomon Cup later this year.”

“For the Women’s League, we will organize it this month in July. For this, we will only pick wards around the provincial capital of Taro, similar to the Grassroots U14 Championship, which will also be hosted there.”

Sipele emphasized the importance of these initiatives, to raise the standard of football and lay a solid foundation for future success.
