The Solomon Islands Kurukuru futsal team proposed training camp in Australia is cancelled as the team’s exemption to enter Australia was not granted by the Queensland State Government due to the current Covid-19 situation in Australia.
As part of the team’s World Cup preparation, Kurukuru was proposed to fly out of the country today for Brisbane but the SIFF Executive has decided to cancel the camp in Australia and start working towards shifting the focus on a camp in Europe next month.
SIFF CEO Leonard Paia said the option to have an international camp in Europe for the World Cup-bound team seems more favourable considering the current circumstances.
“For the next two weeks from now, the team management and SIFF administration will work on an alternative plan to have the team camp in Europe,” he said.
“The actual venue for camp in Europe will be finalized as soon as we get proposals from the National Head Coach over the next few days.
“We are also liaising with FIFA on the flight changes and the new proposal for camp in Europe.”
The seventeen (17) players and two officials will continue training in the country before naming the final team next week after consultation with head coach Vinicius Leite currently based in Australia.
Meanwhile, SIFF would like to thank officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & External Trade both in Honiara and Australia, Australia High Commission Solomon Islands for assisting the team with its visa and exemption application.
