Improved performance from Solomon Islands going down to New Zealand

The Solomon Islands put in a brave performance despite a 0-4 loss to New Zealand on Match Day 4 of the OFC Futsal Women’s Nations Cup.

New Zealand secured their victory with two goals in each half, maintaining their unbeaten run and setting their status as tournament favorites.

The Solomon Islands bounced back from a disappointing loss to Tahiti with an improved showing against Tonga, and they carried that momentum into this match, pressing New Zealand aggressively and disrupting their usual passing rhythm.

Madeline Arukau came closest to scoring for the hosts, unleashing a powerful shot that was expertly tipped away by the New Zealand goalkeeper.

Claudia Votu also had a golden opportunity, but the Kiwi goalkeeper once again came up big, blocking a close-range effort.

Ileen Pegi also had moments threatening runs down the Kiwi defense on occasions.

The Solomon Islands will now turn their focus to their final match against Fiji, where they need a win and favorable results from other matches to keep their hopes alive.
