Capital City based Honiara Titans claimed this year’s SIFF Invitational Beach Soccer Championship title beating newcomers, Karaina Beach Soccer team 6-2 in a thrilling grand final encounter at the DC Park, Central Guadalcanal.
Following an undefeated run throughout the competition Titans deservingly clinch the beach soccer crown from Kwikwi who were edged out by eventual finalist Karaina of Temotu in the first semifinal 3-2.
Kwikwi regain some pride in an all-Malaita third and fourth playoff to beat Canaan Olageugeu.
Titans also dominated the individual awards for players who have extraordinary contributed to their success. Captain Allen Farobo took out the overall Golden Ball award, goalkeeper Roy Funusui Kabini the Golden Glove award and star forward Thomas Amasia the Golden Boot award for scoring 12 goals.
SIFF Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Leonard Paia congratulates the winners and thanking them for their commitment and passion to involve and bringing the championship to success.
The Championship also served to select a national beach soccer team known commonly as the Biliki ahead of the OFC Beach Soccer Nations Cup and the invitational ANOC Beach Games also in August – a collaboration between the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI) together with SIFF to send a team in the football code.
