The Solomon Islands national team have earned a historic 1-0 win away from home against Chinese Taipei in an international friendly match on Sunday, March 24 at Taipei Stadium.
The hosts Chinese Taipei were the favorites heading into the match based on the FIFA ranking and they showed their intentions with some moment of brilliance in the early stages of the match.
Booed on by a good number of Solomon Islands students in Taipei, the visitors displayed the Pacific flair in the attacking half of the pitch.
The big moment arrived in the 40th minute when Jerry Donga through ball found Joses Nawo in the Chinese Taipei’s box, Nawo controls the ball inside the box as an onrushing Ruei Wang challenge earn the Solomon Islanders a penalty.
Evergreen captain Benjamin Totori stepped up to slot the ball past Wen-Chieh Pan for the match winner.
Both sides could have scored in the second half but brilliant defending and lack of cutting edge in front of goal from the attackers saw the match finished in favor of the Oceania side.
