SEWA and Mars United remains
GRANDFINAL match for the 2021 Honiara Football Association (HFA) championships will take place this Sunday at the Lawson Tama Stadium.
The grand final clash will see Mars United FC of Koa Hill Community taking on SEWA Nuts FC at 3pm. Both teams successfully booked their spots for the finals after ousting Mataks FC and Henderson Eels FC respectively during the semifinals yesterday.
SEWA Nuts FC eliminated an exciting young Henderson Eels FC 4-2 while Mars United FC outclassed Mataks FC with a 3-0 win yesterday.
With Mars United FC up next, Coach Hurutarau said they will go back and work on their game plan for the final this Sunday.
Henderson Eels FC flanker Owen Binabo scored in the 41st minute to reduce the deficit to 2-1 before half time, after Chris Arukeni penalty conversion in the 20th minute and a Prius To’omae’s 25th minute goal for SEWA United.
Eels were forced to play with 10 men in the second half after an ugly challenge late in the first half. Desmond Hanka added a goal more for SEWA United in the 52nd minute and added their fourth in the 68th minute.
SEWA Nuts FC Head Coach Eric Hurutarau said they had been anticipating the result yesterday but knows the job is not yet done for his side.
“We looked forward for getting the result today because for the last few weeks we have been busy getting things right during training,” he told SunSPORTS after the game.
“We take each game as the final so today it depended on our team work which if key for us and I think we did everything right today.
“All the teams are tough and for the final it will not be different. We have not met Mars United FC or Mataks FC in the competition but we have a game plan which we will stick to it and we look forward for the final,” Coach Hurutarau said.
Two second half goals for Mars United FC meanwhile were enough to end Mataks FC hopes of reaching Sunday’s grand final match.
Mars United FC striker Sanga Misitana struck twice in the 35+1 minute of the game and doubled the lead for Mars 45 minutes into the second half.
Mataks struggled to execute going forward and were punished by a Junior Kwalai 58th minute goal to seal the victory for the Koa Hill outfit.
“I’m happy because the boys gave all they’ve got in the win today. Our game plan coming in to this match was to take one game at a time,” Mars United FC Head Coach Freddie Kini said.
“Mataks gave us a good fight today but we had a good feeling coming into the semis that we could get the job done.
“SEWA Nuts FC is a good team. Looking at my team we also have lots of good young players and we will go back work and try to find a way to get the job done this Sunday,” Coach Kini said.
