Henderson Eels secure first TSL title

Henderson Eels have secured a historic first-ever Telekom S-League title after a convincing 8-0 win over Southern United in the title decider in the midweek clash at Lawson Tama to claim 50 points with a match to play this weekend.

Top scorers Joses Nawo and Raphael Lea’i scored a hat-trick each for the newly crowned champions to take their tally to 35 and 33 goals respectively heading into the final match against former champions Solomon Warriors on Sunday.

Henderson Eels coach Eddie Marahare was over the moon after securing a historic feat for the club which he joined two years ago.

“First of all, I am happy we win the title in today’s decider. I think for the club I am very happy that after two seasons we were consistent in maintaining the second place and came out on top,” he said.

“For me, as a coach, I am confident in what I have been doing with the team especially how the players respond in training and in our matches which shows that we are champions of the league this year”.

Marahare added that winning the league is a huge achievement for him as a coach and the club.

“I think for any coaches in the Solomon Islands winning the TSL is one of the main objectives. I came in 2018 and after two years to win the league is a huge achievement for me and the club,” he stressed.

“I would like to thank the sponsors for rendering support to the team which help us achieved a historic first-ever title for the club”.

The TSL champions will wrap up the season with a clash of titans against six-time champions Solomon Warriors and Marahare is adamant that his lads will go into the encounter with a champion’s mentality.

“We still have a game left in the league and the boys will not take the game lightly because Solomon Warriors were the defending champions and we have to prove to them why we are the champions this season”.

Henderson Eels and Solomon Warriors will end the league on Sunday 28th March 2021 at Lawson Tama at 3pm.
