A.               Overview of Position

The Head Coach of the Senior Men’s Football Team is the most elite coaching position in the Solomon Islands Football Federation and is primarily responsible for the National Team ‘A’ of the federation. The responsibilities include the training programmes, international calendar, coaching staff, training equipment, player trials, and senior national men’s football team selection.

In general, the ideal Head Coach must have or possess:

• Understanding of the rules and regulations governing the sport of football
• Familiarity with specific skills and strategies for the sport
• Strong leadership skills to motivate and develop athletes
• Focus on playing fair and adhering to the organization’s code of conduct
• Facilitating dispute resolution within the team structure to improve teamwork
• Communicating with other Coaches, players, parents, and organization members
• Ability to help all players improve through practices and individual coaching
• Creating a safe environment designed to keep athletes healthy and injury-free

B.               Tasks and Duties

The tasks and duties of the Head Coach shall include the following:

• Planning and leading practice sessions
• Creating strategies to lead the team to victory in competitions
• Providing feedback and coaching during competitions
• Maintaining player and team records
• Recruiting new athletes for the team
• Mentoring players to develop sportsmanship and respect for the game
• Motivating players to improve and building strong team bonds for performance
• Maintaining the equipment and facilities to ensure safe playing conditions
• Establishing selection procedures, guidelines, and best practices for team training and tournament preparations
• Working with the SIFF Technical Department to share coaching philosophies and principles for adoption in coach education and player development programmes
• Prepare the annual fixtures calendar for the senior men’s national team
• Support the Technical Department with the appointment of coaches for women’s and youth teams
• Heading press conferences to the senior national team

C.               Qualifications

The candidate for the position of National Teams Coordinator shall have the following minimum qualifications:

• Minimum diploma in the field of sports from a recognized tertiary institution
• Minimum Pro-Level Certification (Asian, European, American) or equivalent
• 5-10 years of experience coaching at senior-age level with clubs or national teams

Other skills required:

• High level of computer proficiency
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Have a valid driver’s license
