The Guadalcanal Football Association (GFA) has achieved a significant milestone by fulfilling all requirements under their status with the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF), securing SBD$65,000 of competition grants.
This financial support will be allocated towards the GFA Capital League competition and the provincial Grassroots Under-14 Competitions which come under the SIFF Competitions Grant Agreement with its Provincial Football Association (PFA).
GFA President Leeroy Siovi expressed his gratitude to SIFF, stating, “We are deeply thankful for SIFF’s unwavering support.
“Despite our executive term having lapsed in June after four years in office, our dedication to compliance has been recognized by the federation, allowing us to receive these grants for our competition programs for the remainder of the year.”
The GFA Under-14 Competition is scheduled to commence on August 1st, coinciding with the province’s Second-Appointed Day, followed by the Capital League in September.
Siovi highlighted the importance of these competitions.
“For the Under-14 competition, we aim to select our top players to represent us at the annual Solomon Power Iumi Play Championship, and for the Capital League, we will form a team to represent the province at the Solomon Cup 2024.”
GFA yesterday also kicked off its Women’s Championship at the DC Park.
This funding marks a significant boost for the GFA’s efforts to promote and develop football at both grassroots and competitive levels, ensuring the sustained growth and success of the sport in Guadalcanal.
