FUTURO hosted by SIFF this weekend

Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) will for the first time host the annul FUTURO III course for referee instructors in the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) this weekend in Honiara.

FIFA in collaboration with Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) and Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) will be hosting the FUTURO III – Course for Referee Instructors in Honiara, from 12 -16 October 2019. 

OFC Referee Development Officer, Neil Poloso said around forty participants have confirmed to attend the workshop. 

“The seminar will be held at the Solomon Kitano Mendana Hotel,” he said. 

“All the eleven members association of the Oceania Football Confederation have confirmed their participation in the seminar. Each member association will send four participants to the seminar. 

“The total number of participants expected to attend the seminar is forty. The seminar delegates are expected to be in Honiara by Friday 11 October 2019. 

“The official opening of the seminar is scheduled for Saturday 12 October 2019, 9 am at the Solomon Kitano Mendana Hotel”.

Poloso stressed that the course is very vital for referee instructors as part of referee development in the Oceania region. 

“The seminar focuses on the education of the Referee Instructors – Teach the teachers concept (Technical and Fitness). The participants will be taken through serious activities on methodology, presentation skills and assessments on technical abilities (theoretical and practical training sessions). The education programme part of one of the FIFA’s three major Pillars which is Developing of the game,” he added. 

OFC-based FIFA Technical Instructor Neil Poloso (Solomon Islands) will be joined by FIFA Technical Instructor Mohd Salleh Subkhiddin (Malaysia), AFC-based FIFA Fitness Instructor Alejo Perez Leguizamon (Argentina), OFC-Based FIFA Fitness Instructor Kader Touati (Tahiti), and FIFA Deputy Director of Referee Manuel Navaro (Spain) in leading the 40 participants through two separate courses running consecutively at the Solomon Kitano Mendana Hotel.

“The primary objective for the technical course was to equip the Member Association (MA) instructors with the necessary knowledge, experience, and skill to educate the referees on uniformity interpretation of the Laws of the Game using modern teaching method and materials, “Poloso explained.

“For the fitness course, the primary objective was to equip the MA fitness instructors with the theoretical knowledge and practical experience on the referee’s fitness training.

The participants are expected to pass on this information to the instructors and referees in their associations”.
