The Solomon Islands national team, Kurukuru, and the Australian national futsal team Futsalroos will go head-to-head this evening to kick off the PacificAus Sports Futsal Series 2024 at the Friendship Hall.
For Kurukuru, this series is about gaining experience for their young squad as they look to build into the future – targeting a return to OFC forefront in futsal.
“We have a very young team,” Dickson Kadau who took up the interim role explained.
“Most of the players, they are all young players. It is not for this tournament, but we are preparing this young team for the future.”
“Thank you very much for Futsalroos for coming,” Bule added.
“It’s important for us because, to us, we want to develop this new generation.”
Kadau says it was about focusing on giving his team experience against a Futsalroos side that will bring “presence and skill.”
“It’s a good test to give our friends preparing for their qualification,” he said. “The boys will be giving it a good go.”
“Understanding of the full game, futsal the game, [the younger players are] not much like the older ones. You know, with attending a few World Cups, they’ve [the older players] matured, they can play whatever game. But these new ones, they will have fun. Hopefully, they will have fun and enjoy the game. I really love to see what will be happening tomorrow.”
The PacificAus Sports Program is an initiative of the Australian Government that creates new opportunities for Pacific and Australian athletes to play, grow and train together, and bring our countries closer together through sport.
