…Rovu Boyers set for debut at the FIFA World Cup 2026 – Oceania Qualifiers next week
For 21-year-old Rovu Ernest Boyers, wearing the green, blue, and yellow jersey is not just a milestone – it’s a lifelong dream.
Rovu was called up to the final 23-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026—Oceania Qualifiers in Papua New Guinea (PNG), and making it to that level is a triumph built on faith, hard work, and love for the game, which has taken him to stints with clubs across continents.
Reflecting on his early days he recalls a time when football was merely a joy, not yet a pursuit.
“Football is something everyone in the Solomon Islands wants to be part of, and that’s where our passion stands,” he told SIFF Media.
“I loved playing the game and never viewed it as anything more than that. That’s where the journey began. I knew the risks, the odds, but with the help of God, I knew anything could happen as long as I did the hard work.”
Guided by this humble but determined attitude, Rovu’s journey has been enriched by experiences that have shaped him both on and off the field.
He got the call and was included in the national training squad this year for the first time by coach Josh Smith.
“Rovu is a good young player who is very versatile and gives the team some different options in the final third,” Coach Smith said for the player.
“He has spent much of his youth development outside of the Solomon’s and most recently playing senior football in Greece. I can see Rovu progressing in his career and helping the senior team move forward on the international stage over the next couple of years.

“We are happy to have him in our squad and we think can bring the x-factor to our side during the qualifiers.
Representing the Solomon Islands on the international stage has been an opportunity of a lifetime for the part Western Province lad.
“It feels great to represent the Solomon Islands,” he shares.
“This opportunity is a chance for us to embrace ourselves as one.”
The influence of his parents played a vital role in shaping him into the player and person he is today.

“My parents have been huge role models. The values they taught me have had an impact on how I carry myself. And I’m also grateful to all those I’ve met along the way who have had an impact too.”
From his formative years at Stars Football Academy to stints in various clubs across England, including Eastbourne United AFC, Hollington FC, and Eastbourne Borough U23s, Boyers continued developing his skills. His journey then took him to Episkopi FC in Greece and eventually to Syrianska FC in Sweden.
After five years abroad, he recently returned to Australia, taking a six-month break to reconnect with family—a reunion he treasures deeply.
“In helping others, we help ourselves too,” he reflects.
