Focus on Vanuatu for the final match of the PacificAus Sports Four Nations

Solomon Islands women’s national team defender, Claudia Votu, is looking ahead with determination for their final match against Vanuatu national women’s team at the PacificAus Sports Four Nations Tournament in Canberra, Australia.

Despite their two heavy loss respectively to Thailand U20 and the CommBank Young Matildas, she said the team is hoping for a strong sign-off at the invitational tournament.

“We are very privileged to play against Australia U20. We did our best and gave it our all on the field. It was an emotional one for us since our families and supporters came out today, but I believe we all worked so hard and gave our best,” she said.

With the focus now on their next challenge, Votu acknowledged the strength of the Vanuatu team and emphasized the importance of teamwork.

“Everyone’s going to give their best – Vanuatu is going to give their best. I believe we will work together for the next match. I can say we have improved so much compared to past years. The connection we players have developed throughout the years is strong, and we can continue to work together for future tournaments.”

Votu also praised the PacificAus Sports initiative, which has provided crucial opportunities for the team to gain international exposure – as the team set sight for the OFC Women’s Nations Cup in July.

“These opportunities help us build from where we are. We are thankful to PacificAus Sports for the exposure, which allows us to grow and improve.”

“I want to see more young girls from back home playing football. It would be great to see them start at a young age and grow into the game.”

Solomon Islands will take on Vanuatu tomorrow at 3:00 (SBT) at the Deakin in Canberra.
