FIFA MA Referee Course Held

More than 30 elite referees from the Solomon Islands recently participated in a rigorous week-long FIFA Member Association (MA) refereeing course at the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Headquarters in Honiara.

This annual program is designed to equip international and top-level referees with advanced skills and a deepened understanding of the game’s evolving regulations while introducing them to modern technological tools now integral to refereeing.

Led by FIFA/OFC Referee Instructor Jimmy Warai, with support from SIFF Referee Development Officer (RDO) Hamilton Siau, the course incorporated both theoretical and practical sessions. Participants engaged in presentations, video analysis of game incidents, group work, and in-depth discussions, complemented by on-field technical and fitness training, all aimed at honing their abilities.

Reflecting on the course, SIFF RDO Hamilton Siau expressed admiration for the participants’ commitment.

“The level of understanding and discipline demonstrated by the referees over these five days is impressive. Their strong grasp of the game’s laws signals a promising future in officiating if they continue with this dedication,” he said.

The FIFA MA Refereeing Course provides a vital platform for developing referees to achieve excellence, ensuring their readiness for the increasingly dynamic demands of the game.
