The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) proudly inaugurated its membership in FIFA’s Football for Schools (F4S) program, hosting the launch from Wednesday, October 30 to Friday, November 1, at the SIFF headquarters.
This milestone was marked by a three-day training workshop for newly certified F4S coaches, culminating in a lively fun festival for school kids.
The workshop aimed to make football more accessible to children across the nation by integrating sustainable football activities into the national school curriculum.
F4S programme seeks to bridge the gap between football and education by fostering fun, inclusive, and safe environments where young people can learn vital life skills through sport.
FIFA’s F4S Manager, Antonio Sanchez, expressed the organization’s excitement over the program’s introduction to the Solomon Islands.
“This program provides opportunities for both boys and girls to enjoy football while building life skills and values that extend beyond the pitch. Over the past three days, we’ve trained teachers and coached educators from 15 schools, combining practical fieldwork with classroom instruction to help them fully embrace the methodology and philosophy behind the programme,” Sanchez shared.
The teachers showcased their new skills during the festival, leading activities that highlighted their commitment to fostering a positive and dynamic learning experience for the children.
Sanchez noted the immense potential for F4S in the Solomon Islands.
“The passion and enthusiasm for football here are truly inspiring. We see this as the first step in a journey to make a lasting impact through football in the region.”
SIFF President Donald Marahare expressed gratitude to FIFA for its ongoing commitment to Solomon Islands football.
“We extend heartfelt thanks to FIFA for their vision and steadfast support of youth football. This program not only promotes football but also nurtures an environment where our children can thrive, learn, and grow into tomorrow’s leaders.
“F4S aligns perfectly with our educational objectives, providing age-appropriate activities that complement both curricular and extracurricular learning.”
A representative from the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, Chris Mae, emphasized the program’s role in advancing teacher professional development in physical education.
“F4S supports our commitment to professional growth for educators by offering resources, funding, and training that will empower teachers to lead this program across the country. I encourage all teachers to apply the knowledge they’ve gained with dedication as they inspire our youth.”
Anthony Mateo a school teacher from Nguvia Primary school also expressed his enthusiasm, highlighting how the training had broadened his understanding of football’s impact on mental development.
“As a football enthusiast, I learned that cultivating mental focus is just as essential as physical skill. I’m eager to bring these insights to my students and help nurture their growth both on and off the field.”
