Solomon Islands’ Bilikiki beach soccer team fell short in their bid to reclaim the OFC Beach Soccer Nations Cup title, as Tahiti’s Tiki Toa emerged victorious in a gripping grand final at the SIFF Academy Beach Soccer pitch in Honiara.
The much-anticipated match lived up to expectations, kicking off in a lively atmosphere as home fans rallied behind Bilikiki.
Despite a tense, scoreless first 12 minutes, Tahiti drew first blood in the second period, finding the back of the net to put the Tiki Toa ahead. However, the Bilikiki quickly answered, with Robert Laua leveling the score to the delight of the crowd.

Tahiti’s lead was restored with a stunning acrobatic strike, but Bilikiki’s star boy Erick Wanega yet again delivered leveling the score and setting up a tense final period.
Midway through this decisive period, Tahiti scored again, and though Bilikiki fought valiantly to equalize, they were ultimately unable to break through with time not on their side.
“It just wasn’t our day,” reflected Bilikiki captain Charlie Otainao post-match.
“We were so close to claiming it, but in the end, one has to win. I’m proud of the fighting spirit we showed, and the home support was overwhelming.”
Despite the loss, Otainao remains optimistic and determined, with hopes of a stronger comeback in next year’s tournament.
The win sees the Tiki Toa qualify for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2025 in Seychelles.
