The Solomon Islands Football Federation held a staff meeting today at the Allen Boso Complex to discussed ways forward to administer football development in the country during this challenging time.
SIFF President, William Lai in his remarks said his executive wants to see infrastructure development projects such as the Lawson Tama upgrade and SIFF headquarter relocation project go ahead.
“We have a lot to do despite the current situation. I have three key areas to focus on, they are infrastructure development, national teams and women football, ” he said.
“The relocation of SIFF headquarter has been confirmed after we signed an MoU with the government for the development of the current Allen Boso complex for the 2023 Pacific Games.
“The SIFF Academy will be relocated to the current site of the Taiwanese farm at Burns Creek. We will have better facilities, two football pitches, a beach soccer pitch and a standard size futsal court. SIFF administration centre is proposed to be built at Lawson Tama.”
CEO, Leonard Paia said staff who have been working from home will return to work as of next week and highlighted that SIFF is so fortunate to have FIFA, OFC backing during this tiring period.
“The SIFF executive has approved that staff will work a minimum of two days a week to prepare for the return of competitions and other activities when the government lifts the State of Emergency in Honiara, ” Leonard said.
“I am pleased to say that we still have money from FIFA funding to keep us going during this challenging time.”
Technical Director, Moses Toata stressed that all educational courses will be delivered to Provincial Football Associations starting next month.
“We will continue to deliver our education courses in the provinces as of next month June, and onwards, ” Toata revealed.
“Referee courses should also start in June and the centre of excellence should start once all clubs organize themselves, all our competitions will be aligned to the OFC competition calendar changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I know the SoE will end in July so the TSL is proposed to start in August. Youth leagues are still deferred until all students returned to schools.
“Womenโs football will start in July while futsal league is still deferred to a later date unless the government lifted the restrictions of the SoE in Honiara.”
Meanwhile, the national teamโs training is still postponed for an indefinite period. The technical department encourages players to do individual training.
The wellbeing of players is our highest priority and we are following all guidelines and recommendations from responsible ministries of the government as well as health authorities.
We are taking all necessary precautions and steps as recommended by the Government to help ensure the safety of the wider football community.
