Two Solomon Islands match officials Bernard Mutukera and Rex Kamusu have been selected as candidates for the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar and FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021.
Mutukera was selected as one of the Assistant Referees for the two referees trios from OFC for the FIFA WC project.
The Western province lad first appearences on the world stage officiating in the FIFA U17 WC in India in 2017.
The U20 in Poland is his 2nd WC.Kamusu first FIFA Futsal World Cup was the FIFA Futsal World Cup Thailand in 2012 and Columbia 2016 is his second FIFA Futsal World Cup as a referee.
The duo is part of exceptional referees around the world who have a chance to make it to the world stage if they passed online training leading up to the main events.
FIFA will be tracking the progress of the candidates closely by doing the following:
– Organising monthly online seminars. In these seminars, performances in local and international competitions, as well as areas of improvement, will be discussed via Zoom due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.
– Depending on the situation, a physical seminar might be considered where we can meet thecandidates personally and execute an intensive programme (technical and physical).
This competition calls for match officials who are top-level athletes and have a deep understanding of futsal and football combined with excellent technical knowledge. Only the best referees will be selected for the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Lithuania 2021 and FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022.
