A good number of government ministers, stakeholders, former footballers and administrators convened at the former SIFF headquarters to witness and farewell the home of Solomon football.

Chairman of the National Hosting Authority (NHA) and Secretary to Prime Minister, Dr Jimmy Rodgers said the government is committed to delivering the stadium project and the transfer of site by SIFF is a huge step forward. Rodgers stressed that the government will build a new home of football as part of the deal.

SIFF president lauds the government for being a key partner in football development and assured NHA that football will continue to strive to achieve a gold medal on home soil come 2023 and the new home of football is prominent development for the country.

Statement from NHA stated that in return the Solomon Islands Government is giving SIFF just under half of the 6 hectare Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) farmland that NHA will be facilitating the design and construction of the 2023 Pacific Games Football Training Centre which will be the new home of the Solomon Islands Football Federation.

This football complex will cover an area of up to 3.9 hectares and the facilities will include;

-2 standard-sized football fields with their own changing rooms

-A beach soccer pitch

-An outdoor futsal court

-A two-storey administration building

-A two-storey Dormitory building

The tender bid for the construction of the facilities is being processed by the National Hosting Authority and as soon as a contractor is identified, construction is expected to commence in order to deliver the Office facilities by July 2022.

The costs of the project will be announced once the assessment of the tender bids is finalized.

Construction is expected to commence mid-2021. It is hoped that fields can be delivered by end of the year.
