SIFF ACADEMY REFIT WORK STARTS

Thursday 18th February, 2010
Work on the refitting of the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Academy Complex under FIFA Goal III Project has commenced. Preliminary ground work was started on Tuesday 16th February and continued throughout this week.

Local workers have been contracted to work on the project which is quickly starting to take shape and attracting interest from the public.

The first phase focuses on the separation of the playing area from the office complex. This will see a fence erected between the 2 sections of the compound. This is especially important for the safety of workers in the office and any teams or groups who use the SIFF Academy dormitories. Currently, balls kicked from the playing area can hit and break louvre and injure people inside the building.

From there work will progress to upgrading the SIFF Academy facilities. The education centre will be fitted with compartment units, furniture and other resource materials required for SIFF’s technical development programs. Improvements will also be done to the SIFF Academy kitchen and dining hall.

The SIFF General Secretary, Eddie Ngava, said that this is another example of the commitment that SIFF has to develop and improve facilities for the betterment of football in the country.

“The refitting will help us to effectively administer competitions and also our technical development programs,” Ngava said.

The agreement for the refitting project was signed on January 15th following the SIFF Football Stakeholders meeting held in Honiara.
